Sound familiar?

The bits no one warns you about

Charity accounting trips up generalists and overstretched treasurers alike. Get the SORP, fund accounting or Gift Aid wrong and you risk Charity Commission scrutiny and lost funder confidence.

Most small charities are run by volunteers with little time and tight budgets — so compliance becomes a worry rather than something handled.

  • Charities SORP and fund accounting requirements
  • Independent examination or audit thresholds
  • Tracking restricted vs unrestricted funds
  • Claiming Gift Aid correctly
  • Trustee and Charity Commission reporting
  • A general accountant who doesn’t know charity rules
How we help

Everything handled, under one roof

Charities and not-for-profits answer to the Charity Commission, their trustees and their funders — with their own accounting rules (the Charities SORP), independent examination or audit requirements, and the need to track restricted and unrestricted funds separately.

We’re specialist charity accountants. We prepare SORP-compliant accounts, carry out independent examinations, handle Gift Aid, payroll and bookkeeping, and give trustees the clarity they need — so your team can focus on the cause.

Still deciding?

The honest answers to what you’re thinking

How much do charity accountants charge?

We agree a fixed fee based on your charity’s size and whether you need independent examination or audit. We understand budgets are tight and price fairly for the sector.

Do we need an independent examination or a full audit?

It depends on your income and your governing document. We’ll tell you which applies and carry out the independent examination, or coordinate an audit where one is required.

Can you help us claim Gift Aid?

Yes — we make sure you’re registered correctly and claiming all the Gift Aid you’re entitled to, including under the Small Donations Scheme where relevant.

We’re a small, volunteer-run charity — can you help?

Absolutely. Much of our work is with small charities and CICs, taking the compliance burden off trustees and treasurers.

FAQ

Charities & not-for-profit: your questions answered

Do charities need a specialist accountant?
Charity accounting has its own rules — the SORP, fund accounting, independent examination and Gift Aid — that generalists often get wrong. A specialist keeps you compliant with the Charity Commission and helps you make the most of your funding.
What is an independent examination?
It’s a lighter-touch external scrutiny of a charity’s accounts, required for many charities below the audit threshold. We carry these out to confirm your accounts meet charity law.
How much does a charity accountant cost?
It depends on your size and whether you need independent examination or audit. We quote a fair fixed fee up front, mindful that charity budgets are tight.
Can you help with Gift Aid?
Yes — we ensure you’re set up and claiming all the Gift Aid you’re entitled to, maximising the funding you receive.
Do you work with CICs and social enterprises too?
Yes — alongside registered charities, we support CICs, social enterprises and other not-for-profits across the UK.
